I was saving up money to quit my job and travel the world. But then instead, the company laid me off. Along with the pink slip they gave me a massive severance check. No job, and the money to travel; it worked out perfectly for me. I bought a one way ticket to Bali.
I'd imagined coming back and finding another job. But, while lying on the beaches of Indonesia, I failed to find good reasons to come back and sit behind a desk. And so, I dumped my career and my life hasn't been the same since.
Now I'm traveling the world with a laptop, trying to start up a new career as a freelance travel writer and photojournalist.
I've just started on an epic overland journey that should take me from Tanzania, to Cairo, to Iran, to Moscow, to Ulaanbataar, to Beijing, to Vietnam.
A map of the route, journal entries and photos are all on the website:

Fri, July 23, 2004 - 1:11 AMThats rocking. Its what I would love to do, but dont have the money to. I found a great website, and I am going to begin with just working for 5 months overseas, then later as I gain more money and experience, I hope to "stay gone", and just work and travel and meet new and exciting people. -

Re: Travel was my passion. Travel has become my life.
Fri, July 23, 2004 - 1:37 AMAdam, I’ve been spent a lot of time on your website since discovering it a few months back. I’ve got to say that I agree with Bridget and say that your story is very inspirational. I’ve found that what keeps a lot of people away from their passion, what they really want to do all boils down to the question of “do I have the guts to follow thru with this”. In your case the answer was obviously yes. You took advantage of a situation that could have very easily taken you in a completely different direction and I say hats off to you for that. Congrats on your 3 year anniversary.
