Hello new to this tribe.
Anyways my question is:
If you could do something that would matter in one-hundred million years, what would you do? I’ve been feeling down lately and whenever that happens this question usually comes up.

that's a tough one. What really could matter in a hundred million years? Maybe if you could save us from the grean house effect and thereby saving current civilization from doom.

WOW!!! Great question! 100 million years...hmmmmmmmmm. I'll take the road less traveled here. Rather than ponder what I could do that would last 100 million years, I'll take a simpler approach (I'm a simple kind of guy!) I'd look at what I could do to positvly impact another persons life. By doing this I will have a positive impact on our society and thus on the world (in a chain reaction way). Or, think of it this way: If a butterfly flaps its wings in an Austrailian desert, it can cause a hurrican in Florida. In short, every little thing we do will have a greater impact down the road.

I think of it this way. Every being was put here for a purpose, a part of a greater purpose and each person performs a role that impacts the future of every other being currently and to come. We are all connected so in essence just being ourselves, living our lives is a wonderful and very meaningful thing which will impact people in ways we never even know about yet which will be passed on for years to come.

Thank you for all the replies. As for my answer. I agree this is a hard question. I think that the time I'm able to answer this question, more questions come up.

100 million years, I don't anything anyone does will matter in a 100,000 years much less 100 million. I focus more on what I can do to make a real impact in 5 years.

I am a little cocky I guess, I think I have already done a bunch of things that will matter in one-hundred million years from now. I have touched the lives of many people and that has changed them and I am sure it trickles through to other people.

The most important thing that I have done to matter to the future is become a mother. I strive to be the best parent I can be and accept that responsibility of the gift I have been entrusted with. The universe has seen me fit to help mold a part of its future.

Similar in some ways to "if you were emperor for a day, what....?"

    You asked for it:

Outlaw breeding of nonhuman animals by humans, practically, to be phased in say over 10-20 years: Just think if some other species bred and did with us what we do to nonhuman animals.

We humans don't need animals for food or other....and we are animals, too. We would no longer have to put to death unwanted, stray, other animals. At least a mind-boggingly great amount of animals therefore would not be manipulated, mechanized, warped, perverted,....into existence to....

Also, but complementary, stop neutering/spaying animals, implementing things perhaps like birth control pills, instead: how would you like if some other species did this to you? can you imagine how radically fucked up beyond....your (not speaking to anyone in particular) life would be, afterwards?
