Looking for a good Cabernet Sauvignon. I’m not a wine drinker, never have been but with recent heart issue’s it’s probably a good idea to start drinking this in moderation as numerous articles have suggested. It seems that Cabernet Sauvignon contains the highest levels of flavanoids which are the chemicals that give the wine its particular taste and character, making one different from another. Many of these flavanoids act like antioxidants. Too bad it doesn’t make it taste like tequila. Any wine drinkers out there that can steer me in the right direction?

It's a very tough question, especially as wines, even the same wine for the same vinyard, can vary dramatically year-by-year.
Price is rarely a determinant either. Sometimes expensive wines are dull. Sometimes extremely cheap wines are very good.
What's your budget? That's also a big question.
But here's what I generally recommend.
1) Drink Chianti.
I know that it's not a cabernet, but Italian wines are subject to very strict requirements. And anything labelled as an offical Chiani, will at least be very drinkable.
2) Taste wines, and then buy what you like in quantity.
If you can get out somewhere to do wine tasting, that's great. If not, buy a sampling of wines at the super market. Try them one by one, and if you find one that you really like rush back to the store and buy a case.
I used to regularly go to Trader Joes. They carry super-cheap wines ($2), but in limited quanties, so they sell out quickly. I'd bring a corkscrew with me, and taste the wine directly from the bottle in the store. If the wine was no good, I'd buy just the one that I opened. If it was good, I'd buy a case or two of it.
There are some thoughts for you. -

Sat, May 26, 2007 - 9:17 AMAdam, thanks for the advice.
hmmm, just so happens that the city is having a Winesfest coming up next weekend

I've had wine in the past and it just didn't taste good to me. To be honest all of the wine I have ever had all taste the same. I don't know if it's an acquired taste or I just got cheap wine.
My budget isn't really an issue if I can find something I like.

Sun, June 3, 2007 - 5:17 PManother tip regarding organic wines:
they can be quite expensive, but australian wines use little pesticides on their grapes as the climate is very dry and so does not harbour alot of pests. this tip was passed on to me by a knowledgeable wine expert. personally, i drink merlots so i can 't help you... but i did a wine tasting in california recently and it was fabulous! you really get to know what you like.
good like michael, sounds like a fun project ;-)
